SOUTH PARK AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT UPDATE:

Update:  June 22, 2026

The Township’s contractor, Abbonizio, mobilized and began demolition of the existing bridge structure and guiderail on June 9.

The new culvert and concrete wingwalls have already been prefabricated off-site. The culvert sections are scheduled for delivery to site on Tuesday, June 23, during which time a crane will be erected on site to unload and install the delivered culvert sections. The crane installation and flatbed trucks delivering culvert sections may result in additional impact to some residents’ driveway access. Those expected to be directly impacted by this work have been notified individually. The crane is anticipated to remain on site for at least 1 day of operation, dependent on weather conditions.

South Park Avenue and the South Park Avenue spur road will both remain detoured and closed to all through traffic for the duration of the project. There will be open excavations moving forward so drivers must abide by the road closures. Construction is expected to be completed in mid-August at which point roads will be re-opened.

The South Park Avenue spur road will be repaved via 1.5” mill and overlay by a separate contractor for its entire length following completion of the bridge replacement project. That work is tentatively expected to be 1-2 days of work in September. This repaving will only necessitate closing the road during work hours on those respective days.

(May 13, 2026)

PECO has completed all construction associated with the gas service change over and completed temporary restoration of the surrounding area. Final restoration of the roadway is scheduled for Friday, May 15, and will be performed by Kehoe Construction.

Pennoni (Township Engineer) is coordinating with PECO regarding final restoration of the northwestern streambank. No commitments have been made to scope or schedule at this time.

Abbonizio is expected to mobilize in late May to begin the bridge replacement work; however, their schedule is dependent upon coordination with PECO on site restoration.

Update: April 27, 2026

PECO has indicated that their paving subcontractor is attempting to complete the base repair and permanent pavement restoration within the next few weeks, and is aiming to have this work completed by May 15th in advance of Abbonizio Construction mobilizing for bridge construction.

Abbonizio currently anticipates mobilizing in mid to late May, possibly as early as May 18th.

Restoration of the east side stream embankment by Danella remains outstanding.

At this time, there has been no update provided regarding the schedule for completion of this work.
